The 15th International Brick and Block Masonry Conference took place at Florianopolis, Brazil, from 03rd to 06th of June in 2012.
Over 230 persons did attend to the conference, from 39 different countries.
Six keynote speakers talked about masonry construction in Brazil at the current time, covering subjects from the constructor view of the industry, high-hise buildings, pre-fabrication, Life Cycle Assessment and other. The Sunday afternoon panel discussed the Development of the Engineered Masonry in different parts of the world. Some of the issues that came out of the discussion included the question if a minimum reinforced should be provided even on non-seismic areas around the world.
During the conference four workshops were teach on Slender Walls, Prestressed Masonry, FEM, Accidental Damage and Progressive Collapse.
Other keynote presentations discussed perspectives on heritage masonry, the performance of buildings during earthquakes and masonry sustainability.
Another 105 papers were presented during the technical session covering a wide range of areas on masonry research and applications.
